Task Force Metadata

The Task Force Meadata is a working group of Section (Meta)daten, Terminologien, Provenienz. The Task Force consists of metadata enthusiasts across the various disciplines of the NFDI. It addresses the leading topic of metadata standards and metadata harmonisation of the Section and is dedicated to defining recommendations for an overarching NFDI metadata standard. By its work, the task force addresses the goals set out in §1d of the federal-state agreement and the NFDI Strategy 2025/2026.

Aim

The TF Metadata aims to encourage the use and adoption of the existing and developed (cross-discipline) terminologies and metadata schemas to increase interoperability between the consortia to meet the requirements stated in the BLV goal, taking into account the formal obligation of the NFDI association charter in this regard.

Objectives

  • Initiative an consensus building process across NFDI consortia with the aim to define NFDI recommendations for metadata standards
  • Identify and evaluate existing and applied (generic) metadata schemas
  • Develop a guideline for the consortia on how to map their metadata to a common ground like Dublin Core (DC) or DataCite or DCAT
  • Motivate and support consortia to map their metadata to recommended shared (general) metadata standard 
  • Develop a guideline for modular metadata schema. Initially start with consortia of related scientific domains
  • Develop recommendations and guidelines on how to integrate a certain (general) metadata standard into a repository system
