NFDI invites to Parliamentary Lunch
(Published on 27.07.2021) On Wednesday, 16 June, members of the German Parliament (Bundestag) and their employees had the opportunity to learn about the major challenges in research data management as well as about solution strategies through NFDI. The association introduced itself during a virtual parliamentary lunch.
In his keynote speech, Director Prof. Dr. York Sure-Vetter first made clear the great importance of already existing research data in the generation of new knowledge. At the same time, he outlined problems that researchers encounter in their work. Data is usually stored in a decentralised, temporary and project-related manner and therefore difficult to access.
NFDI wants to solve this problem and build a better data infrastructure. York Sure-Vetter told the guests about the current activities of the association and how the primary goals will be realised.
Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the research data management of the future. The discussion was moderated by Eva Lübke, Administrative Director.
One topic was the development of common standards for more interoperability. NFDI is working on harmonising standards with a special focus on interdisciplinary exchange.
The balancing act between open research data and fields such as data protection, patent law and copyright was also discussed.
The guests were as well interested in the technical implementation of services. In particular, the role of data centres in the development of a nationwide research data infrastructure was discussed.

EOSCxNFDI: Event strengthens connection between EOSC and NFDI
Connecting EOSC and NFDI even better – that was the aim of the two-day EOSCxNFDI event. As a side event of the EOSC Symposium 2024, EOSCxNFDI took place on 23 and 24 October at the H4 Hotel Berlin-Alexanderplatz. A total of 122 people attended.
New funding approved for basic services RDMTraining4NFDI, PID4NFDI and TS4NFDI
At its meeting on 11 October, the Consortia Assembly decided to fund three basic services. RDMTraining4NFDI will enter the initialisation phase, while PID4NFDI and TS4NFDI have been approved for the subsequent integration phase.
The funding will flow via Base4NFDI.
